Day 1: Tokyo
Like so many important port towns, Edo started off as a sleepy fishing village. This one, however, surprisingly grew up to become Japan’s capital, the biggest metro area on earth… and was later renamed “Tokyo.” For decades now it’s felt a bit like it’s living in the future… and you can probably say it is, with all the tech and neon and energy that flows throughout iconic neighborhoods like Akihabra and Shibuya. But with all the upgrades installed, Tokyo’s traditional culture hasn’t been replaced, best seen through the residential neighborhoods of narrow streets lined with traditional homes. And that’s not to mention the green spaces, like the city’s ample national parks, gardens, shrines and temples. Some can’t-miss spots are Imperial Palace Plaza in the city center, Tokyo Tower — which tops even the Eiffel Tower — plus the imposing Mount Fuji is always happy to join the city’s skyline for a photo.
Day 2: Fun Day At Sea
No port today! It’s a great time to explore your ship and its exciting entertainment, food and activities! Or take it easy at the pool, spa, or... if you book a room with a balcony, enjoy the waves.
Day 3: Kobe (Kyoto)
Even if you’ve never been, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of Kobe — this is the place where the internationally-prized beef is made under famously strict standards. But before Kobe became associated with fine dining, it was one of the first Japanese seaports to open for trading with the West, following the nation’s 200 years of isolation. Technically, the city of Kobe didn’t even exist at that point — not until 1889 — though the area had been settled for over 1,500 years. Kobe today boasts great city views from Mt. Rokko, well-preserved castles and mansions, plus museums of art, literature… and sake, where tastings are available! Shrines, temples and gardens are among the iconic local sights, and some great ones can even be found in Kobe’s regional neighbors Osaka and Kyoto.
Day 4: Fun Day At Sea
No port today! It’s a great time to explore your ship and its exciting entertainment, food and activities! Or take it easy at the pool, spa, or... if you book a room with a balcony, enjoy the waves.
Day 5: Fukuoka (Hakata)
Hakata is overflowing with fascinating history, serene temples and spectacular scenery. Outside Hakata, Kokura Castle is surrounded by a beautiful garden where visitors can witness a traditional tea ceremony. Soak up the spectacular scenery on a gondola-like boat called a donko as you cruise along the Yanagawa River. Explore the Moji Historical District, a charming area that sits along Kyushu's waterfront boasting many interesting historic buildings.
Day 6: Busan (Pusan), South Korea
Welcome to Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city which is home to mountains, beaches, hot springs and incredible culture.
With so much on offer it can be hard deciding what to do in Busan. You might want to visit one of the most striking landmarks, the Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, perched by the sea with a dramatic rocky backdrop. For a look at everyday life, you could explore the colourful, winding alleyways of the Gamcheon Cultural Village which was built on such a steep mountain-side slope it’s been nicknamed the “Machu Picchu of Busan.” Foodies will be spoilt for choice too at the Jagalchi Fish Market.
Day 7: Seogwipo (Jeju)
Seogwipo is your gateway to beautiful Jeju Island. As soon as you step foot on Jeju it will be easy to see why it’s often referred to as “The Hawaii of Korea”. Soaring Mount Hallasan, a dormant volcano covered in lush green vegetation dominates the stunning landscape which also features white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters and winding coastal trails. Visitors can hike up the mountain for breathtaking views of the crater lake near its summit or visit Cheonjeyeon Waterfall - known as the Pond of God. You can admire the falls from the Seonimgyo arch bridge, which offers a spectacular view of the surrounding rock formations and verdant parkland. Jeju's Jungmung Saekdal Beach is also popular, nestled in a secluded spot surrounded by cliffs. Alternatively, visitors can explore Seogwipo Healing Forest offering a serene 11 km-long forest trail through cypress and cedar trees.
Day 8: Fun Day At Sea
No port today! It’s a great time to explore your ship and its exciting entertainment, food and activities! Or take it easy at the pool, spa, or... if you book a room with a balcony, enjoy the waves.
Day 9: Keelung (Taipei)
On a Carnival cruise to Taiwan, guests can explore Keelung, gateway to Taipei. A sophisticated modern metropolis that has not forgotten its rich traditional past, Taipei is the largest city and capital of Taiwan, located on the Danshui River.
For those who love the hustle and bustle of a big city, Taipei truly is a great place to visit. It is renowned for its shopping malls, among the most popular being Taipei 101 Mall. If shopping isn’t your thing explore the quaint, old cobblestone streets of Chiufen village or take in some history at the National Palace Museum. For something peaceful, visit the Tienlai Hot Springs Resort - nestled among the verdant slopes of Yangmingshan National Park or head to Yehliu Geographic Park, known for its otherworldly rock formations.
Day 10: Fun Day At Sea
No port today! It’s a great time to explore your ship and its exciting entertainment, food and activities! Or take it easy at the pool, spa, or... if you book a room with a balcony, enjoy the waves.
Day 11: Hong Kong
Imagine a shimmering forest of steel and glass skyscrapers, bustling harbor waters filled with junks and sampans, and the inviting green hills of Kowloon. Welcome to Hong Kong, a top travel destination that never fails to enchant with all its excitement and exotic charm!
On Hong Kong Island, modern skyscrapers and luxury hotels rise majestically. The narrow streets are alive with noodle vendors and fortunetellers. The countless shops offer everything from bespoke suits and ancient porcelain to the latest in consumer electronics. Over seven million people move at a dizzying pace in this vibrant hub of capitalism, commerce, and enterprise.
With so much to see and do, the hardest part will be choosing what to do first. For a breathtaking view of the entire city, head to Victoria Peak. Savor lunch at one of the city's famous dim sum restaurants. Stroll down the crowded streets to feel the city's energetic pulse. And whether you're in the mood or not—shop. After all, you're in the duty-free capital of the world!
Carnival Luminosa® is new to the Carnival fleet… and we’d say this ship is all set to make a first impression.
Guests setting sail on Carnival Luminosa can expect hospitality and fun that's pure, unmistakable Carnival, with so many fan-favorite onboard features like the flavors of Alchemy Bar®, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse™ and RedFrog® Rum Bar; the entertainment of Playlist Productions™, Piano Bar 88 and The Punchliner™ Comedy Club; plus the relaxation of Cloud 9 Spa™ and Serenity™. And when you’re indoors, you can still expect great views and lots of natural light — the ship was built with plenty of windows.
So when you choose to sail on Carnival Luminosa, can we just say… great choice! There’s just one more decision to make: is Australia or Alaska more your cruising style? We ask because this world-traveling ship will kick things off sailings from Australia in the summer months with plenty of itinerary options… before heading to Seattle for a summer of Alaska cruises. And when the ship’s heading from one region to the other, we take the opportunity to sail unique Transpacific itineraries that stop in spots like Fiji, Tahiti, Hawaii, Japan and more. So, what we’re saying is… with scenery like this, you’re gonna put those windows to good use!
